One of the things I love the most about working at Stand.earth is that we go toe to toe challenging some of the world’s largest companies to do better, to stop destroying forests, to address climate change, to not put people and our planet at risk. This is never comfortable – not for us taking on companies that have more revenue in a few hours than we fundraise in a full year. And it’s not comfortable for the companies we take on – who often want to do the right thing but have simply not prioritized it.
Bellingham, WA – In May, 2016 Resolute Forest Products (NYSE: RFP), Canada’s largest logging company, hired Kasowitz, Benson, Torres & Friedman to silence Stand.earth, Greenpeace and individuals who work at both organizations with a frivolous intimidation lawsuit in U.S. federal court.
School is back in session across the country – and right now in some classroom somewhere in the US children are being educated not on math, science or history, but briefly, and importantly, on bullying. There has been, at long last, a revolution in our schools around teaching kids how to deal with bullies, what kids should do if they see it happening, steps for teachers to take to stop it from occurring again. It is a gross practice, a thing done out of fear, anger and insecurity, and it is heartening to see progress on this issue in our schools.
